MEDICAL SECRETARY
AN INTRODUCTION

Course Objectives:
To give an introduction to the work of a Medical Secretary including responsibilities, practice and structure of the various medical departments in hospitals and GP surgeries.

Pre-Requisites:
Comprehensive knowledge of a word processing program, competent keyboarding (at least 40 wpm), good letter layout and office practice skills

Course Content:

  • Lesson 1: Introduction to GP Practice

  • Lesson 2: Introduction to a General Hospital together with Orthopaedic terminology

  • Lesson 3: Introduction to Private Practice, Oral and Maxillo-facial

  • Lesson 4: Respiration, Cardiology and Drug dosages

  • Lesson 5: Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Paediatrics

  • Lesson 6: Male Reproduction System, the Urinary System and Gastro-Enterology

  • Lesson 7: Psychiatry, Psychology and Endocrinology

  • Lesson 8: Neurology

  • Lesson 9: Dermatology and Gerontology

  • Lesson 10: Sensory Organs - Opthalmology, Ear, Nose and Throat

  • Lesson 11: Plastic Surgery, Burns and Oncology

  • Lesson 12: Consolidation

The AMSPAR Level 2 Award in Medical Terminology

The aim of the AMSPAR Level 2 Award is to provide learners, who have no previous knowledge of the subject, with a grounding in the correct construction, recognition and usage of medical terminology.

The AMSPAR Level 2 Award in Medical Terminology is accredited by Ofqual and is listed in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (6 credits). This means that it is eligible for public funding through the Learning and Skills Council.


The AMSPAR Level 3 Certificate in Medical Terminology

This well-respected award is suitable for those working in health care who wish to add a medical terminology qualification to their skills and knowledge or for individuals thinking about changing career direction.

Since 1998 the medical terminology certificate has become increasingly popular and, with a pass mark of 75%, represents real ability in medical terminology. It is a widely recognised qualification and would be a rewarding addition to your skills and qualifications.
